A funny thing happened to me awhile back. I was walking out of my gym and a man stopped me. He was an elderly man who happened to notice that the fleece I was wearing said Camp Micah. He asked me if I worked there and I explained that I did. He began to recount for me that he attended summer camp in Maine when he was a boy. He went on and on about how much fun it was, how it made him the person he is today, etc. We talked for about ten minutes and as I was driving home, I began to think a lot about my summers at camp and how amazing they really are. Working full time for a summer camp, you sometimes can lose sight of just how lucky you are and all of those little things that make camp - camp. For example, last night I dropped a plate in my kitchen and no one clapped (that would never happen at camp) and the other day I heard a song at the gym that reminded me of our weekly campfire. It’s those little moments (when you least expect it) that bring you back to days spent outside just having fun. Camp is an amazing place that really cannot be put into words; rather, a person has to experience this place first hand. You can tell who is a “camp person” and you can only talk camp to another camp enthusiast. It’s a bond that extends past the summer, past your age, to a parking lot of a fitness center…That’s camp!
