About Birch Rock Camp
Set apart by its size - only 80 boys - and its focus on non-competitive achievement, Birch Rock Camp has captivated boys ages 7 to 15 with exhilarating camp activities since 1926. The camp models a life of simplicity, civility, and mutual support. Birch Rock provides a nurturing summer home where boys can truly enjoy boyhood. Campers discover unexpected fun when they disconnect from electronics and reconnect to the natural world. With its towering pines and pristine Lake McWain, Birch Rock offers a breathtaking setting for camping. Boys live in cosy whitewashed cabins where cooperation is key. Our motto, “Help The Other Fellow,” becomes a way of life for all. Tradition and rituals surround every aspect of the day, from the wake-up bell and cabin inspections, to the lights-out call at nightfall. Activity periods give structure to each day, with a perfect mix of energetic fun, quiet concentration, and relaxed downtime. Every morning campers sign up for their favorites from a wide array of activities: boating and swimming in the lake; learning how to handle knives and fire in camp craft; playing sports on fields with sweeping mountain views. While they have free choice, campers are encouraged to try new things and broaden their horizons. Birch Rock’s mission is to build self-confidence and character in its boys. Some of their greatest challenges are encountered on camping trips. Seasoned guides introduce the youngest boys to camping with an overnight trip. Senior campers embark on increasingly difficult hikes and paddles through the Maine and New Hampshire wilderness. Campers learn from the counselors to shake hands firmly, stand tall, treat others with respect, and to act like young gentlemen while eating family-style meals in the lodge. Birch Rock is distinguished by the many campers and counselors who return year after year - even for decades. From youngest camper to oldest staff member, the whole community comes together in close fellowship each summer.
