Maine Camp Directors & Business Members Come Together
October 17, 2017
by Laurie the Campcierge™ It’s “leaf peeping” season here in Portland, Maine, which also means it’s the annual gathering of the Maine Camp Experience community of premier overnight camp directors and business member partners. It’s a time to meet, discuss, eat well (it is Portland after all!), review, plan, share best practices, and collaborate. While people tend to think of summer as the camps’ “key” season, the year throughout gives camp directors the essential time to reflect on the past summer and gear up for the summer ahead. When we get together, the collective experience and passion from these Maine camp directors is evident and clearly shows how they can provide the best experiences for children. The gathering kicks off with a group pic (our version of class pictures, which is right on target for this time of year). From there, directors share ideas and information about everything from facilities and food, to how to help support the J-1 Visa program to keep international counselors. Matt Hoidal from World of Change speaks about the successful philanthropic camp events we worked on together this past summer, as well as about the upcoming ChangeFestevent of which Maine Camp Experience is a partner. One pervasive sentiment is about the natural beauty of Maine and how much the incredible camp settings enable extensive lakefront activities and much more. We then spend quality time with our valuable business partners whose services help enrich the camp experience. Special thank you to our host CIEE, as well as Hyatt Place Old Port and The Portland Regency Hotel & Spa, which provided rooms and event space. While our campers might think the summer seems far away … we know with all the program planning, staffing, and facility enhancements underway that summer 2018 will be here before we know it … and we can’t wait for the best Maine camps summer yet to come! — Maine Camp Experience Resources & Tools
