If you and your family were unable to spend time in Maine this summer, or if you are one of the many families engaging in remote learning or have a few days off this fall — there is no better time for a getaway to our favorite state: Maine. Of course, we think there is no better time in Maine than the summer, but fall is a close second. Across the Northeast, the fall is the perfect time to experience the beautiful foliage. Maine, right at the top of the coast, gives you and your family an opportunity to do so. For some of our Maine Camp Experience (MCE) families, Maine is just a drive away, offering a safe opportunity for travel during this pandemic. We’ve compiled a list of our top 5 Maine fall activities for you and your family to take part in!

  1. If you are looking for some beachfront views, we recommend heading to Portland and taking a walk to thelighthouses. The fall views are beautiful and the lighthouses are a picturesque and fun walk for your family. And, after you pay a visit to the lighthouses, if you are in need of a snack, hit the:
  2. Portlandfood truck scene for foodie heaven. They have so many options— from tacos, to hotdogs, to famous lobster rolls, and even wood-fired pizza. There is no better way to experience Maine than trying them all!
  3. If you are looking to get active, and to see the beautiful foliage from an elevated view, consider hiking inAcadia National Park. These hikes offer some of the best views in the Northeast, and some of your campers might even have been there before! Be sure to visit the town of Bar Harbor, too, which borders the park and is an adorable place to stroll around.
  4. And, while Maine’s blueberry picking season (which so many of our campers partake in each summer) may be over, now is a great time to take your family apple picking. Check out this search tool that can help you find an apple picking spot local to your Maine vacation spot. While you’re there, be sure to grab some cider or donuts!! 
  5. Finally, a visit to Maine is a great time to visit camp. Some of our camps still offer visits for prospective camp families if you get in touch with directors to request a tour. It’s exciting for campers to see their future favorite summer place!
