Thinking of the backyard Easter Egg hunts that some Maine Camp Experience (MCE) families recently enjoyed, we’ve got fun and games on our minds. We’re reminded of the special games that our campers partake in each summer at MCE camps.  At MCE blogger Emma’s Maine Camp, evenings were a time when the camp came together to do fun, unique camp activities outside of daily activities. Evening activities included: scavenger hunt-esque games like Counselor Hunt — a hide and seek edition in which counselors camouflage and hide all around camp as campers search — and Gold Rush—a search for ‘gold’ that combines tag and Easter Egg hunts. These nights of competing in silly games created some of her fondest memories. She remembers, “Games like these throughout the summer gave us an opportunity to meet campers of all ages, as we were broken up into teams, and to have a friendly-competition full of spirit and excitement!” When Emma gets together with her camp friends, even years later, they even still remember the details of their final, annual Capture the Flag game — including who ran for the winning point! Games remind us of the special fun that is so unique to traditions at our Maine Camps. When thinking of games, many of our Maine campers’ minds immediately jump to Color War, Olympics, College Days and similar all-camp events which can last for a day or span several days. These games bring incredible excitement as each camper competes for their team. The spirit of these events is infectious, and these games are a highlight of every summer.Games at camp can also be a simple example of good, clean fun — with no technology, something that gets harder and harder to come by! As we all occupy ourselves at home during this unprecedented time, we at MCE look to our camps for examples of ways to stay busy and make our own fun! Emma says: “I remember countless Rest Hours spent playing card games, from B.S. to Spoons or even Go Fish, and many hours before bed spent playing games of Jacks on the bunk floor. And, on rainy days, we could always count on our outdoor activities to be replaced with (competitive!) tournaments of Monopoly, Heads Up, or even Bingo!” No matter what, MCE campers can always find ways to be creative, and have fun with games — even when they might not make sense to outsiders! Blogger Emma remembers coming home from camp and, with her sisters, attempting to explain their many bunk games to their parents, a task that always ended in confusion and laughter.Games are one of the many things that make Maine Camps unique, special, and fun, and we can’t wait to play! — Maine Camp Experience Resources & Tools
