Celebrations at Maine Camps
May 5, 2020
At Maine Camp Experience (MCE), we love any opportunity to celebrate— particularly in times like these! With fun celebrations of Cinco De Mayo on our minds today, we can’t help but think of the many ways our Maine Camps spend holidays and celebrations in general.Of course, summer holidays immediately make us think of the Fourth of July, a spirited and exciting day all across the country. At each of our Maine camps, though styles vary, campers and counselors alike can come together to celebrate our country and enjoy a special day. Beginning by dressing up in red, white and blue for the day, our Maine Camps know how to throw a party! At MCE Blogger Emma’s Maine camp, counselors and campers can wake up and run “Four on the Fourth”— a four-mile run in the nearby town that ends with watermelon and cheering fans. When thinking of camp celebrations, MCE Blogger Ali thinks of her Maine camp’s yearly Fair held at camp. At this fair, there are bouncy castles, snow cones, raffles, and a lot of smiles and laughter! These celebrations always end in fireworks, and whether it’s accompanied by S’mores, ice cream sundaes, or cookouts, this holiday is always a crowd favorite, and a special way to break out of the everyday schedules at our camps.Beyond holidays and fairs, one of the best parts of Maine camp is the unique ability to turn so many things into an exciting celebration. MCE blogger Emma recounts the special fun of having a summer birthday: “My birthday is in July, and each summer, my Maine Camp made the day more special than the last! Beginning with a ‘Happy Birthday’ serenade first thing in the morning, I got to celebrate with a themed birthday party at lunch and a cake with my favorite flavors. The excitement of camp celebrations has made it difficult for recent birthdays to live up to this standard!”No matter what we’re celebrating, at our MCE camps, holidays and celebrations are the perfect way to bring campers and counselors together for a fun break of routine. Celebrations like these provide an added layer of excitement, making them one of so many things our campers look forward to each year.As we make the best of this difficult time, we at MCE suggest asking campers you know (maybe they’re your kids or peers!) about their favorite camp celebrations. Whether it’s a themed dinner or a special dress-up, replicating the fun of camp celebrations can be the perfect way to add something special to your home. And, no matter what, we know that this summer our MCE camps will find ways to celebrate together! — Maine Camp Experience Resources & Tools
