Summer Has Begun: at Maine Camps and Beyond!
June 23, 2020
It’s official: summer has begun!! With the start of summer underway, we know this year is different for many in our in Maine Camp family. But, whether you are going to camp or not, we encourage our campers and counselors to make the most of every summer. No matter where you are, staying in touch with camp friends throughout the months of June, July and August, in particular, makes every summer feel special. Maine Camp Experience (MCE) blogger Emma says, “Every summer since our last one in Maine, my camp friends have found some way to get together and reunite. Though this summer is different from others, and we may not all be able to physically gather, staying in touch with one another is important nonetheless!”And, even if we can’t all be in Maine this summer and experience the beauty of our favorite lakes and scenery, we urge our campers to get outside and take advantage of awesome weather! Take a walk and think about your favorite camp hike, go swimming at a beach or pool and think about your camp lake— whatever it is, being outside is an awesome way to stay positive and enjoy your summer! And, like we do at camp, we urge our campers to make an effort to get off your screens (except for talking to camp friends of course!) and take advantage of your summer break.Without school to worry about, even if we aren’t physically at camp, we at MCE think this is the perfect time to replicate some of our favorite camp activities. Use your hands to tie-dye or make friendship bracelets (see our craft blog for more!!), or organize a socially-distanced kickball game with friends to replicate the fun competition of camp Color War. There are countless ways to make your summer as great as it can be and keep the camp spirit going, whether it’s in Maine or elsewhere this year.Above all else, summer is the time to enjoy being a kid! Take a break from your schoolwork and enjoy the excitement that comes from making your own fun. No matter where you are, we as Maine campers know how easy it is to have fun when you have the right attitude— and we know this summer will be no different. — Maine Camp Experience Resources & Tools
