Did you know September 22 marks the first day of fall? As we begin to experience the change in season, we can enjoy beautiful foliage and take advantage of cooler weather. We at Maine Camp Experience (MCE) have five camp-inspired activities for your family this fall!

  1. Fall is the perfect time to take family walks or hikes. This is a great way to enjoy nature and to stay active — just like we do at camp! And, walking or hiking provides a great opportunity to take advantage of leaf peeping season, see the beautiful fall colors and get in some exercise, all at once!
  2. As we all know, fall can sometimes mean the arrival of colder, or rainy days where you might want to stay inside with your family. When the summer season brings rainy days at camp, we love to organize technology** - **free games! Whether it’s board games, jacks or card games, technology-free options provide a fun way to bring the family together without screens. Next rainy day, ask your camper his/her favorite rainy day activity from camp and try it at home!
  3. One of our campers’ favorite summer activities on day trips outside of camp is to go blueberry picking. Obviously, fall is not blueberry season, but apple picking provides a similar activity that is fun (and tasty) for the whole family, and it gives us a great reason to bake!
  4. When we think of camp, one of the first things that always comes to mind is, of course, campfires. And as the fall weather gets cooler, there is no better time to get cozy around a fire, whether it’s inside or outside. And, don’t forget to buy graham cracks, chocolate, and marshmallows … because, what would a campfire be without S’mores?!
  5. Finally, crafts are always popular among our campers each summer, and making crafts is an activity that is easily transferable to home. No matter the weather, coming together to create something with loved ones is always a blast. Whether it’s making a photo collage of your summer pictures, making a drawing or painting, or even mailing a camp friend an old fashioned letter and a friendship bracelet, crafts are a great way to stay busy and have fun, no matter the season.   So, as we begin the fall season, we hope you and your family can bring a little bit of camp into this new season with you! — Maine Camp Experience Resources & Tools
