New Beginnings, Inspired by Maine Camps
September 15, 2020
It’s hard to believe we are halfway through September! For some of us in the Maine Camp Experience (MCE) community, the beginning of fall each year marks not only the start of school, but also the High Holidays in the Jewish tradition. This week, many MCE campers and staff will celebrate Rosh Hashanah— the Jewish New Year!Rosh Hashanah marks a fresh start and a new beginning each year. We at MCE think Rosh Hashanah is the perfect time to think about how you want to start the year off on a fresh, good foot, and of course— like all things do— this makes us think of camp! When we think of MCE campers, we think of good attitudes, smiling faces, and positivity. We think of the freedom campers feel to be themselves and try new things at camp. We so often hear from campers at the end of the summer that they’re sad to leave because they love their camp lives and “camp selves” so much! So, as we think about the start of the New Year, and the school year, we urge our campers to think about what they love about their ‘camp self,’ and to bring that into the school year.Whether it’s about bringing the positive attitude that allows you to see the silver lining in any situation, being open to trying new activities, helping a friend or people in need, embracing your inner-silliness or reminding yourself to celebrate what you have, we know our campers are ready. As we know, Rosh Hashanah marks a new beginning, which rings particularly true in this unprecedented time. This school year is one of many unknowns— but if there is one thing we at Maine Camp Experience do know, it’s that our campers are fully equipped and ready to start a new year with their positive camper attitudes. So, as we embrace this fresh start in the spirit of this holiday, we wish everyone a sweet new year! — Maine Camp Experience Resources & Tools
