Tip Off: Basketball at Maine Camps
October 19, 2021
With the NBA tipping off and the WNBA Finals just concluding with the Chicago Sky taking the title, we’ve got basketball on our minds! This face paced game that’s exciting to watch and play makes us think about basketball at Maine Camps. Basketball is one Maine campers’ favorite sports beloved by girls and boys. Basketball is fun to play, plus it builds endurance, and improves balance, flexibility, and coordination.
Maine Campers get to play basketball on outdoor courts, many with picturesque Maine lakes and pines as the backdrop. Maine Camps also have great indoor courts for additional play – especially useful on an inclement day.
Basketball is part of daily programming at Maine Camps, as well as part of special events like Olympics, Color War and College Days. It’s played both during the day and under the lights at night. The camps provide great instruction – often by collegiate players and coaches – and drills to learn and perfect skills like dribbling and shooting. There are fun events like 3-point shoot outs, layup competitions, and slam dunk contests. Campers can play 5-on-5 or 3-on-3 games.
Basketball can be played by campers of all ages and all athletic abilities. Campers enjoying playing basketball on their “home” courts at the camp they attend; they also enjoy intercamp basketball games and tournaments at other Maine Camps.
While having fun and/or playing to win, playing basketball at Maine Camps is a great place to learn great sportsmanship too. Teammates learn to work together and communicate well. The success of each player depends on the performance of the other teammates. These skills are great on and off the court for life.
So get ready to dribble it, pass it, and put it in the basket at Maine Camps this coming summer! And, if you haven’t enrolled your kids yet – the ball’s in your court: make it happen!
