Around Valentine’s Day, we think about what makes our heart sing … and summers at Maine Camps top our list! There’s so much to love about Maine Camp Experience Camps like fun activities and beautiful environs. We checked with directors to see what they love about Maine Camps. Here’s what they shared: “I love being with the kids on a day-to-day basis and impacting lives. It’s also meaningful being a part of a tradition where I grew up, running from generation to generation.” “One of my favorite moments each summer is standing at our gate greeting the cars coming in for opening day. Seeing returning campers light up as they turn the corner and see Sebago Lake, new campers looking timid but excited; and seeing the parent reactions when they arrive. It is an emotional day and I love being able to experience it with them.” “It’s hard to overstate how lucky I am (and believe we are as camp directors). Few other businesses operate in a space where everyone truly wants to be there for all the right reasons. And while waiting ‘10 for 2’ can be hard, the long ‘off season’ provides a unique ability to really think about our camps and how we can improve the experience for campers, parents, and staff. This opportunity to think is something I cherish.” “I love visiting my summer camp all four seasons. Although it was freezing yesterday, the sun was shining and the clean crisp cool pine air was wicked awesome. Counting down ‘til the start of camp!” And, from Camp Sunshine (one-week sessions for terminally ill children and their families): “What I LOVE most about being the Executive Director at Camp Sunshine is seeing the amazing transformation that takes place with families from when they arrive at Camp on day 1, to the time the leave.  Families arrive with the weight of the world on their shoulders having to deal with the challenges of having a child with a life-threatening illness and for a brief period of time they are able to just relax, rejuvenate and connect with others that are on the same journey.  They arrive apprehensive and uncertain; but leave as part of a close-knit community more prepared to meet their daily challenges.” Parents, campers, alumni, and staff agree - experiencing camp in Maine is an everlasting love.
