Maine Campers Have Arrived: Summer 2021 Has Begun!
June 29, 2021
This week, Maine campers arrived by bus, plane, cars, and vans. There were cheers and happy tears. There were fist bumps, high fives and hugs. There were human tunnels for campers to run through. There were masks on faces, but you could see the smiles beaming in everyone’s eyes as campers embarked on their summer 2021 Maine Camp Experience adventures. In any “normal” summer, arrival day is one of the most electric of the year. In 2021, arrival day was further heightened with the excitement of campers getting to return to their summer camp home away from home after enduring the pandemic. Campers, staff, and directors began to shed the stress and hardship of the past year+ as they reunited on arrival day, even more happy and appreciative than ever before. After arrivals, which included health screenings, campers got settled in. They were shown to their cabins where they got acclimated with their bunkmates and counselors. They were shown around camp, heard about general rules and expectations, and were given their schedules (which could be a little different during the first week when many will be just with their pod for activities before expanding a little broader). Opening night campfires brought campers together to celebrate the momentous beginning of summer 2021. And, in the first days, campers really got to jump right in and indulge in full programming. Campers hit the lake and the fields for activities and fun. They took cabin pics and even enjoyed some favorite camp eats like delicious donuts. It’s exciting to know and see that our 30+ camps are all running on all cylinders – already giving campers what they’ve needed for so long: the chance to be in nature, off screens, reuniting with camp friends and making new friends, being active, learning new skills, and having fun! They need this. We need this. Our hearts are singing as our campers are thriving. Looking forward to many happy and fulfilling weeks ahead. Maine Camp Experience Resources & Tools
