If you’re considering overnight camp for your child for 2022 or know someone who is, now’s the ideal time to plan a trip to visit Maine in August to enjoy everything that “Vacationland” offers and to see Maine Camps firsthand. This summer, due to preserving the Covid-free “bubble,” many Maine Camps are welcoming prospective camp families starting in mid-August and into September. It’s a great time and way to get to see the camps, meet the directors in-person, and enjoy the natural beauty of the lakes and pine-tree lined fields. Families can see the facilities and activities, and learn about the camps’ history and traditions. While plenty of families do choose camp without seeing them firsthand, it’s a great opportunity if you’re able to get to Maine this summer. Our Campcierge™ Laurie shares, “As I’m helping prospective camp families select their best few camps to tour and plan their visits to Maine, I’m feeling nostalgic. Pictures are popping up on my phone from when I toured with my kids eight years ago. We had a great time taking them to see the camps I thought might be great for them, and we enjoyed lots of Maine adventures, too. Some fun ideas include: taking a Duck Boat tour in Portland, walking Marginal Way in Ogunquit, enjoying the rides and games at Old Orchard Beach, seeing the big Duck boot statue at LL Bean in Freeport, hiking in Acadia National Park, and eating lobster, blueberry pie, and whoopie pies wherever you go! Now, seven and five years in, my kids have had the best summers at their Maine Camp. They’ve made incredible friends who are like sisters, they’ve learned to sail, and they’ve created memories to last a lifetime. ” If your child is still raring to go after the day camp day ends and feels comfortable at sleepovers at friends and relatives homes, it could be the right time to look at overnight camps. For parents who are on the fence, better to look than not since a whole school year’s growth is a lot of development by next summer. Going into third grade/age seven is a popular age to start overnight camp (give or take a year in either direction; of course, each child is different). Maine Camps offer incredible natural beauty, strong traditions and values, and top-notch activities, facilities, staff, instruction, and trips. They feature great geographic diversity of campers and a nice, temperate climate. Every Maine Camp Experience camp is set on a beauitful lake and offers a great combination of land and water sports, arts, nature, and outdoor adventures. Some questions to help parents find the right camp include: What’s your desired session length in the first year and in future years? Preference for coed or single gender camp? Do you want more structured, more elective, or combination programming? And more.
