Jump for Joy at Maine Camps
January 18, 2022
Happy tears sprang to my eyes as I helped a prospective camp parent confirm camp for her daughter for this coming summer. This mom, who grew up not going to camp and not knowing much about camp, was thrilled for her daughter. She shared, “I’m on a high since we’ve secured a spot.” It was actually her daughter who had brought up the idea of overnight camp and presented it to her mom. The daughter researched online and found Maine Camps. Based on their interests and criteria, and the camps’ availability, she is now enrolled at an amazing Maine Camp, which will give her an incredible summer of fun, friendship, freedom from screens, social media and school pressures, new experiences, nature, and more.
Everything her mom said resonated for me as a guide who helps parents find the right camp, as a mom, and as person in general as we’ve all felt the weight of living in these pandemic times. The mom shared feelings about her daughter going to camp for the first time, “She so badly needs it. All these kids do. During these years of Covid, the kids are receiving so much news and so many messages. It’s a lot to take in.” Going to camp in Maine will be a break from her constantly hearing about breaking news and government guidelines. It will be about learning to sail, climbing ropes courses, playing soccer, and acting in the play. It will be appreciating the moment and blocking out the noise. It’ll be a time when campers can more than just exhale … they can jump for joy!
This mom further shared that she’s excited to have her daughter attend Maine Camp which feels like, “joining a well-oiled machine.” Knowing that her daughter will be attending a Maine Camp that has been around for so long and run so well makes her feel confident. As she said, “it’s the best thing in the world!” She’s so happy that her daughter will “appreciate the time away from home” and that camp will “help her be an even better version of herself.”
This mom understands the magic of Maine Camp! I am so excited for her and for her daughter. Maine Camp summer 2022 … here she comes!
