Celebrating International Women's Day at Maine Camps
March 8, 2022
On International Women’s Day we celebrate women’s achievement and recognize the accomplishments of women. At Maine Camp Experience, we salute the strong women of the camping world – female camp directors who run many of the best camps in the country. We also celebrate the campers, the growing young women who are learning and thriving at Maine Camps.
Female camp directors at Maine Camps are incredible leaders. They’re responsible for the physical, mental, and emotional health and well-being of campers and staff each summer. They’re creating meaningful youth development opportunities through daily camp programs, special events, and philanthropic programs, too. They ensure that campers and staff are well fed, well rested, and are getting a great variety of fun and learning through their activities. They also ensure that specialty areas including the all the arts, sports, trips program, and the health center are well staffed, well stocked, and functioning at top capacity. They are creating a culture and a dynamic at camp that encourages the staff and campers to be their best selves – to be kind, strong, and curious. They carry the values and the traditions from generation to generation. And they hire and train great staff who take care of campers, teaching them activity and life skills.
We also celebrate the young women - who the female campers are and the strong incredible women they will become. When kids go to Maine Camps, not only are they having fun; they are learning life lessons and gaining confidence, independence, resiliency and more. They are learning how to advocate for themselves and help others. This can include setting and achieving goals like moving to the next highest swim group, learning to waterski, or climbing to the top of a rock wall. And they can encourage a friend to try out for the camp play or sign up to learn to ride a mountain bike, try a ninja warrior course, or bake a cake. They can express themselves by writing and recording a song or playing guitar at a campfire. Supported by the camp community, these young women can test the waters and achieve greatness. These are our future leaders and we feel great knowing that they are growing, learning, and thriving at Maine Camps.
So cheers to all the women and young women of Maine Camps on this International Women’s Day.
