The popular saying “10 for 2” often refers to how campers live 10 months during the school year to get to enjoy the coveted two months of summer camp. It also applies to how Maine Camps spend 10 months meticulously preparing to provide an incredible summer and they are now in the home stretch for camper arrivals on opening day.

Right now, Maine Camps are in the height of pre-camp happenings; they’re finalizing projects, prepping the buildings and grounds, and welcoming, training, and orientating the staff.

The summer camp playgrounds of Maine Camps are looking great! There has been a lot of investment, planning, and hard work over the past year. Projects have ranged in all sizes from constructing new buildings and spaces (dining halls, camper cabins, shower houses, art spaces, amphitheaters, etc.), to adding finishing touches like new decks, and resurfacing courts for tennis, pickle ball, and basketball. Camps are freshening fields, installing their lake docks and loading in the boats. They’re bringing in horses, cleaning up foliage, stocking the kitchens and health centers, and more. No stone is left unturned to make a beautiful and safe environment in which every camper will benefit and enjoy.

And, while pre-camp clean ups and installations have been active, staff are arriving for instruction and certification, including: water safety and lifeguard training, sailing and ropes course instruction, and wilderness first aid. Orientation is getting underway and returning counselors and new staff alike are getting acclimated and settled in. They’re bonding with each other and learning fun camp traditions. They’re absorbing important rules and expectations. They’re learning about the best ways to care for Maine campers so they can positively impact campers’ experiences. Staff will be positive role models who help campers have fun, learn and grow.

Camp is buzzing and we’re so excited! We can’t wait for arrival day when campers get to enjoy all the fruits of the pre-camp labor. Bring it on!
