This week, many of our Maine Camp families are celebrating Rosh Hashanah – the Jewish New Year, which is a time to celebrate new beginnings. To those observing the holiday and to all members of the Maine Camp community, we’re sending wishes for a peaceful, healthy, happy, bountiful, sweet year ahead.

We connect with friends and family, eat special foods, sing songs, and celebrate longstanding traditions. In a way, it reminds us of the start of camp each summer when we gather as a camp community. We celebrate the new beginning, and we are filled with hope and excitement for what’s ahead. We think about the ways we want to create a warm, welcoming environment, and we think about how we can enrich our community and the world at large.

At this holiday, we dip a slice of apple in honey to express our hopes for a year that will be sweet and fruitful. And just as they’re symbolic of the holiday as well as fun to pick this season, apples are popular at camp too! Maine campers enjoy apples for snack, and they also use them to bake tasty treats in cooking classes. Apples are sweet, clean, pure, and delicious. And Maine campers are definitely the apple of our eye!

So, take time today to rejoice. Celebrate family, friends, your community, good health, camp, apples, and more. We wish everyone a sweet year.
