As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we think about all the strong women we respect and raise at Maine Camps. We salute the women of Maine Camps, and share our love and appreciation.

Hats off to the women making invaluable contributions as leaders at Maine Camps, many who are camp owners/directors. At Maine Camps, fierce females may be running the waterfront overseeing food service and kitchen teams, managing health centers, handling staff hiring and training, and running the office (activity and trip schedules, cabin assignments, travel logistics, special event programming, and more). Women at Maine Camps are teaching skills in everything from land and water sports, to fine and performing arts, to equestrian and beyond. These women are role models for Maine campers who grow up seeing how much these women enhance our experiences and lives. Women at Maine Camps help create environments for positive growth and development, and support campers’ mental, physical, and emotional well-being. The contributions of women at Maine Camps are evident at individual camps, as well as in the camping world at large. Cheers to women at Maine Camps who lead by example, teach activity skills and life lessons, create community, bring joy, provide support, are active listeners, and impart great wisdom.

And, while young campers are learning from these admirable women, they, too, are becoming fierce females. Campers develop confidence, independence, and resilience. They see what it’s like to be a good friend and a good citizen. They learn teamwork, exhibit camaraderie, and support their peers. As they get older, they also serve as mentors and role models to younger campers – oftentimes as “big sisters.” The young women of Maine Camps are developing their sense of self, and learning the value of their contributions to their community and the world at large. They show their strength at their camps, at intercamps, on trips, and in life beyond. Girl power!

We wish a very happy International Women’s Day to all the strong, intelligent, talented and wonderful women of the world! Thank you moms, grandmas, aunts, sisters, neighbors, teachers, directors, counselors, and more!
