Happy Birthdays at Maine Camps
August 29, 2023
Shout out for summer birthdays and at-camp celebrations. Many Maine campers and counselors have summer birthdays and they couldn’t be happier to celebrate at camp! While some parents may think - I’d love to celebrate my kid’s birthday with them on the day - our MCE Director and Campcierge® Laurie, shares: “My daughter LOVES being at camp for her birthday each summer … there is NO place she’d rather be!”
Campers and counselors who have summer birthdays love the special celebration and treats they and their cabin mates receive. They get to feel extra special at camp that day. Some camps give a pizza party and a cake. Other camps give a special crown and a sash. Camps will often mention the day’s birthdays in morning announcements or display the birthday names on a wipe board in the dining hall. Some camps let parents send an extra sweet treat like cupcakes. And some camps have wacky traditions like trying to throw a cake over the rafters and catch it. This can make for some fun (and messy) celebrations! Oftentimes, campers with birthdays get an extra phone call from home so parents can wish their camper a wonderful day. And what could be better than spending a birthday with fun activities like sailing on a beautiful Maine Camp lake with amazing camp friends.
One of the best parts of a summer camp birthday is that campers often get two celebrations! They get to celebrate with family and home friends either before or after camp AND then they get to celebrate at camp. What could be better?
So, as we head toward the end of summer, we share one more Happy Birthday, with our campers and staff who turned a year older in Maine this summer. We hope it was a great day and a great start to your new year ahead!
