What’s getting us through the long, cold winter? The anticipation of the coming camp summer! We can’t wait to trade the freezing temps, snow, and too much screen time for action-packed, activity-filled summer days at Maine Camps! The winter doldrums has our Campcierge® Laurie looking back at past years’ activity selection sheets with the hope that summer will be here before we know it.

One of the hallmarks of a Maine Camp summer is the incredible activities and instruction campers enjoy. Camps offer more than 50 different activities, as well as special events, traditions, and memorable trips, too. With about 6 activity periods each day, campers are lucky to enjoy a variety of land and water sports, arts, and nature activities.

Daily activity schedules varies by camp. Some camps have a two or three-day rotation where campers enjoy a schedule of activities for a few days and then they switch. It gives them time to learn a skill, make good progress, and finish a project. Other camps have an A-day/B-day format where every other day campers are enjoying a different schedule so they have continuity for a few weeks but variety every other day. Scheduling also varies by camp - some are all elective, while some are structured/pre-selected, and others offer a combination. Also, many camps offer more electives as campers get older so campers try everything while they’re younger and can have more choice as they get older.

Featured in this week’s MCE blog are a couple camper-submitted activity sheets that camp then turns into two-day, A & B-day schedules:

Camper #1 (9 year old girl):

- Soccer - Jr. Fitness (a variety of sports games and skills training) - Tennis (required at this camp) - Swim Instruction (required at some camps through a certain age and/or skill level) - Recreational Swim - Discovery - fishing, canoeing and nature (a good requirement to give younger campers skills & appreciation)  - Costuming - Waterskiing - Sailing - Dance - hip hop - Annie - the play - Archery

Camper #2 (15 year old girl):

- Dance - hip hop - Sailing - Waterskiing - Chef Camp (cooking; a double period) - Lacrosse - Sailing - Running - Tennis - Spinning (stationary bike - an option for older campers) - Rockport (songwriting and recording) - Sailing (and extra period b/c this camper loves it!)

This is just a sampling. There are a plethora of additional activities ranging from football, golf, equestrian, gymnastics, and rope courses, to photography, painting, ceramics, stand up paddle boarding and more! There’s no shortage of activities, skills, and fun to be had each Maine Camp summer day!
