The Magic of Maine Camps
March 13, 2024
With less than 100 days to go, we’re en route to Maine Camp summer ‘24 and things are feeling pretty magical right now!
Is it because:
A. We sprung forward by changing the clocks and gained more daylight?!
B. It’s St. Patrick’s Day this week and we all feel the luck of the Irish giving us extra spring in our step
C. Spring is in a week and then we’re just one season away from Maine Camp summer!
D. All of the above
The answer is D. We’re starting to feel giddy with excitement which will carry us to camp where the magic really happens!
Each camp summer is wonderful - kids are off their screens and social media, they’re connecting with friends, and they’re spending time in nature. They’re enjoying fun activities, learning great skills, taking memorable trips, and enjoying special events. All these well-planned happenings, delivers a top-notch, magical summer.
Then, what puts it over the top to make it an A++ is the unknown magic that organically happens. It’s becoming friends with a new camper or establishing deeper connections with friends already known. It’s a special campfire with a pink skies sunset you’ll remember for the rest of your life. It’s the new camp song that gets written during Group Sing that becomes emblazoned in your heart and imprinted in your mind. It’s that legendary dunk on the basketball court that’ll be talked about for decades. It’s the pride kids feel from leaving home to be a first time camper or the excitement they get to be the older camper they had always looked up to. It’s the feeling of accomplishment from training for and completing a One Mile Lake Swim and having your name engraved on the camp plaque. It’s getting up on waterskis, learning that tennis serve, sculpting a beautiful bowl in ceramics, climbing to the top of the rock wall, or learning to ride a bike or horse. It’s joining the play or an intercamp sports team. It’s that first-day arrival excitement and it’s those last-day tears. And the hugs - all the hugs!
All of it is magic! The magic of being young and of growing up at summer camp in Maine; spending peaceful time at the lake to appreciate and recharge. And, of course - there’s actual magic, too. A magic show as an evening activity. Magic as an activity choice. Magic from that counselor who always has a little magic trick up his sleeve. And magic from donning Harry Potter costumes in a play or a Halloween in summer.
Enjoy the excitement that is really starting to brew. The magic of Maine summer camp is on the horizon.
