As the weather has been warming up in Maine and around the country, we’re getting closer to summer and can envision our campers arriving for incredible camp experiences. What tops the list? Quality time at the lakes! Maine has over 6,000 lakes including the beautiful, big, natural, crystal clear, pine-tree-lined lakes at Maine Camps.

At Maine Camps, campers have daily lakefront activity. They enjoy swimming, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, waterskiing, fishing, and much more! These opportunities to learn and partake are unparalleled, and are often not something many campers have access to at home. Campers enjoy these activities in the moment, and build skills and appreciation that last a lifetime!

Time on the water provides a sense of calm, relaxation, and happiness; “seeing blue” is good for mental health as it reduces stress and anxiety. Being connected to the water promotes focus, creativity, and better sleep. It’s a nice rest for the brain and a good break from overstimulation. Being on the lake is also a great place for being active and staying fit.

In addition to regular camp periods, there are also special times for water activities including: friendly competitions against other Maine Camps in swim meets and sailing regattas; one-mile lake swims at many camps for which older campers prepare and achieve; fun games like bucket brigade during all-camp Olympics; and more. Maine Camp lakes are also great backdrops for morning camp gatherings and evening campfires complete with S’mores.

And, in addition to the lakes at camp, Maine campers also enjoy out-of-camp trips where they explore other/bigger lakes, as well as rivers for swimming, canoeing, and more.

We’re so excited for our campers to living their best lake lives at Maine Camps again soon.
