“When my kids started camp years ago and I was folding all the clean clothes to pack in the trunks, my husband said to my kids: I hope you stain every shirt at camp!,” shares our Campcierge® Laurie. While that was a friendly dig at my urge to “irritate the stain” quickly with soap or detergent so stains don’t set, it was also symbolic for telling the kids to be kids - to have fun, throw themselves into the activities without abandon, get dirty, live in the moment, and not worry about the small stuff.

There are many fun ways campers get messy at special events they look forward to all summer and year long! Events include slip n’ slide into Jell-O, rolling around in a pool of Jell-O, tug-of-war in pudding, slime battle with water guns, cracking eggs on heads, and more. Color runs are another messy and fun event. Foam parties are always a fun dirty/clean way to sing, dance, and get messy!

And, even when not doing a purposefully messy activity, our campers can definitely get a little dirty when they go all-in sliding into home plate on the field, playing tug-of-war during Olympics, doing ropes courses, hiking, and mountain biking on trails, eating ooey gooey S’mores at the campfire, making tasty treats in culinary classes, and in arts and crafts when tie-dyeing, painting, and doing ceramics. Messy Maine campers are active and engaged campers.

We look forward to having our campers back again next summer where they can have fun getting messy and making great memories (and there’s always great services like MCE business partner, E&R Laundry, to help us get clean again!
