Aerial parks, high and low ropes courses, climbing towers and rock walls - these are exciting, popular active adventures at Maine Camps. Campers love being outdoors, being active, challenging themselves, and climbing to new heights on well-developed courses.

There are lower and higher features so campers can build their skills. As they harness in and helmet up, campers are inspired to climb. They set and achieve goals and they’re proud of themselves. You can see it in their smiles, high fives, and self reports to counselors, directors, and parents.

Even hesitant campers feel encouraged as they work toward their goal. The great thing is - it’s not like going to a theme park one day or a vacation spot for a day or a few. Campers are at camp for the summer or a multi-week session so they really get the opportunity to build their courage and their skills. Going to activities repeatedly, enables campers to practice, push further, and see growth. We witness this in all areas of camp, including learning to waterski and sail, improving landsport skills, and creating projects in ceramics and woodshop. Climbing helps campers hone their concentration and hand-eye coordination which transfers well to helping them achieve in other sports and activities.

Campers enjoy climbing as an individual pursuit and also as a group activity for good bunk bonding. Often set in a woodsy section of camp, the climate is temperate and comfortable, and the surroundings are beautiful.

Having gained the skills and confidence on in-camp aerial parks, climbing towers, rock walls, and ropes courses, campers also get to take scenic hiking and climbing trips throughout the state of Maine and neighboring regions. Their experiences are memorable and can be life changing. Campers’ appreciation for the natural world grows stronger.

As the snow melts and the green trees emerge, we’re excited to tune up Maine Camp climbing courses for summer ’25. We can’t wait to see our campers climb to new heights!
