Bike Riding at Maine Camps
May 6, 2025
Did you know May is National Bike Month? It’s the perfect time to celebrate an exciting and empowering part of summer at Maine Camps: bike riding!
For many campers, riding a bike at camp is more than just a fun activity — it’s a milestone. Some children arrive without knowing how to ride, and they leave with a brand-new skill and the confidence to match. For experienced riders, camp offers many exciting biking opportunties.
At Maine Camps, bike riding is woven into daily life and special adventures:
Learn-to-Ride Sessions: For younger or beginner campers, trained staff offer step-by-step guidance, helping each child gain balance, coordination, and confidence. Camp is a supportive, safe place where kids can learn at their own pace, cheered on by experienced staff and their bunkmates.
Terrain Courses: Once campers get the hang of things, they can take on our exciting terrain trails. These courses are designed for skill-building and safe thrills in a natural, wooded setting.
Camp Cruising: Campers can use bikes to explore different parts of camp, making their way around camp on two wheels. It’s a great way to feel independent and get around while enjoying the fresh Maine air.
Out-of-Camp Trips: Older or more advanced campers might join supervised biking adventures beyond camp grounds — a scenic, unforgettable way to experience Maine’s beauty.
Stationary Biking: Some campers love spinning on stationary bikes so they can manage their resistance, speed, and duration. And since these bikes are indoors or under covered pavilions or in gazebos, campers can ride comforably—rain or shine.
For some kids, camp is the only place they get to ride. Whether they live in urban environments or simply haven’t had the chance to try biking at home, Maine Camps opens up a world of freedom and fun. The sense of accomplishment campers feel after mastering a new skill is one of the many reasons camp memories last a lifetime.
So, as we celebrate National Bike Month, we’re proud to say: biking is more than a ride at Maine Camps — it’s a journey. A journey into confidence, independence, and pure summer joy.
