Bike Riding at Maine Camps
May 12, 2026
It’s National Bike Month, which makes it the perfect time to think about the joy of riding bikes at Maine camps.
For many campers, summer camp is where they first learn how to ride on two wheels. With supportive counselors, wide open spaces, and plenty of encouragement from friends, Maine camps create the ideal environment for kids to build confidence and independence while having fun outdoors. More experienced riders love exploring wooded trails and riding on scenic camp roads.
Many Maine camps also offer exciting bike programs featuring mountain biking and BMX-style courses designed to challenge riders at every level. Campers can practice balance, coordination, and skill development while navigating obstacle courses, jumps, and trail systems built specifically for adventure and fun.
Beyond the excitement, biking at camp teaches important life skills. Campers develop perseverance, resilience, responsibility, and self-confidence every time they hop on a bike and try something new. There’s also something uniquely freeing about riding through the fresh Maine air surrounded by forests, lakes, and friends.
In a world increasingly focused on screens and schedules, biking at summer camp gives kids a chance to unplug, stay active, and experience the simple thrill of outdoor adventure.
This National Bike Month, we’re celebrating all the campers who learned to ride for the first time, conquered a challenging trail, or simply enjoyed the ride with friends during a Maine summer.
Because sometimes the best camp memories are made on two wheels.
