While campers eagerly count down the days until summer begins, a parallel excitement is happening in Maine. Camp preparation is underway, and every Maine camp community is hard at work preparing staff and facilities for another unforgettable summer.

Across Maine, cabins are being painted and refreshed after a long winter. Porches and floors are being sanded. Flowers are being planted, adding color and beauty to campuses that will soon be bustling with activity. Docks are going into the lakes. Fields and courts are being prepared for games and play. Trails are being groomed for hikes and adventures. Aerial parks, climbing towers, and adventure courses are being assembled and tested. Sports equipment is being unpacked and organized, and arts supplies are being stocked and arranged for countless creative craft projects to come.

Animal friends like horses, goats, kittens, and even llamas are settling back at their summer camp home. Health centers and kitchens are being stocked. Dining halls are being readied for the conversations, laughter, cheers, songs, and traditions that will soon fill them from dawn to dusk.

Every detail matters because every detail contributes to the Maine camp experience.

Staff arrivals are happening and training is underway! Counselors and activity specialists from across the US aned around the world have made their way to Maine for extensive orientation and preparation. They’re learning how to teach activities, support campers, build community, and create safe, welcoming environments where children can thrive. They’re deep into teambuilding activities, and gathering around campfires for S’mores.

These counselors are mentors, role models, coaches, teachers, and caring caretakers who help make camp such a transformative experience for children. Through training, teamwork, and preparation, they are getting ready to guide campers through a summer filled with growth, friendship, confidence, and fun.

Meanwhile, in homes across the country, families are preparing too. Duffel bags have been packed with camp clothes and gear, and excitement for the weeks ahead. Many of those duffels are already in transit and will soon be delivered directly to cabins, awaiting camper arrivals.

By the end of June, the final preparations will be complete and ready for the 65,000+ campers who will spend time at Maine camps this summer to enjoy everything that makes the experience so special. They will participate in top-notch activities, learn from exceptional instructors, enjoy outstanding facilities, embrace cherished traditions, and embark on memorable trips and adventures.

Perhaps most importantly, campers will unplug from screens and connect with the people and experiences around them. They will make new friends, strengthen existing friendships, discover new interests, build independence, and create memories that last a lifetime.

For now, the training teams and prep crews are hard at work, and every project completed brings us one step closer to opening day.

We’re getting ready. We’re excited. And we can’t wait to welcome campers to Maine at the end of June.
